Pakenham WI News - July 2010

Pakenham WI

June 15th - The Tea Time in Texas Story at East Harling W.I.
Bridget, Carol and I gave our first public rendition plus slides of the story at East Harling village hall to a delightful and receptive audience. Decked in the usual jeans and stripped tee shirt attire we hope we inspired our listeners to try something totally different and break away from the W.I. image of Jam and Jerusalem as we proved nothing is out of reach or impossible.

July 8th - Bar-b-q evening at Squires Gate.
For the first time in four years the gods were with us and it was perfect weather. Our bar-b-q chefs Rip and Cliff cooked our burgers and sausages to perfection, thanks boys. The members provided a delicious array of salads, dips and puds, our treasurer provided a vast assortment of excellent wines and the company was great, the perfect recipe for a summers evening. It was lovely to have Jenny as our guest for the evening whilst on a visit from Australia.

28th July - Sandringham Flower Show.
The coach is now full. we are all looking forward to our day at the show and who knows we my get to meet their Royal Highnesses. !!!!

August 12th - Cats Protection league.
This months speaker is Penny Aldborough from the Cats Protection League.

My beloved Emily went to cat heaven last week, she had been my constant companion and friend for thirteen years I was totally devastated by her death. I rescued a wonderful little six year old cat called Tilly from the Bury Cats Home on Saturday who needed me as much as I needed her. This months speaker will be of great interest to me so if you are interested in rescuing a furry feline friend join us for the evening, or come along to hear of the wonderful work this charity provides.

September 2nd - Dancing Queen.
We still need more people to go to this spectacular show in Norwich.

The Fashion Show in September is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

The cookery book is printed and ready to go, but is encountering violent opposition from the W.I. hierarchy who disapprove of us donating the proceeds to Help For Heroes. Some changes may have to be made to the cover but the members and I are determined to give all we can to this magnificent cause.
