Texas Here We Come! - Part 2 - 07.03.2010
Preparations on both sides of the Atlantic are now complete, both sides eager to begin the adventure. The support we have had from U.K. companies has been amazing enabling us to take the very Best of British for our culinary needs. Some ingredients we are taking on the aircraft, the rest (and anything that customs may find unusual!), flour from Marriages, jam from Tiptree and Wilkins, icing and caster sugar, are winging their way across the Atlantic as we speak. Waitrose are supplying very special long life bread that will travel with us plus some fabulous napkins. Yorkshire Tea and Butterworths have supplied the tea, the latter a special blend of Suffolk tea that is really exciting the American hosts. All Things Cake of Cromer have donated fabulous pink aprons for us girls to wear for the event, very pink, very frilly and covered in bright cup cakes. We shall have numerous much needed little culinary secrets in our luggage to make the cakes just that little bit special.

We leave Norwich on April 14th flying on KLM Royal Dutch Airlines who in my opinion are the very best and only way to travel long haul. They have very generously given us an excellent discount and I know will make the start of our journey memorable and very comfortable.

The itinerary in the States is very hectic as we prepare for the event, food shopping in the Fort Worth continental market and two days non stop cooking. The tea takes place on Saturday April 17th when over 100 Fort Worth residents will be treated to an English tea of a life time. The next day we have a few hours relaxing time then its away to a big concert. We have a full retail therapy day planned on the Monday, shop till you drop in some designer shopping outlets and then a spot of sight seeing before our return home on Wednesday night.

The girls across the pond have organised their end very well sourcing where we buy all the ingredients we require. We have two kitchens at our disposal and apparently there is an excellent Italian restaurant around the corner from The Trinity Parish Hall, the event venue, that we can frequent if and when we get hungry or fed up with our own cooking!

We hope all our friends, family and the news media will follow the story here on the web site, it should be quite an adventure. Not only are we promoting Pakenham and beautiful Suffolk but we are promoting the talents, versatility and independence of nine British housewives and W.I. members willing to travel thousands of miles at their own expense to serve their American friends a tea to remember. The quote is Today Texas Tomorrow The White House! Watch this space.!!!!!
