In Pakenham we are fortunate to have a number of charitable endowments, dating from the 16th century onwards, which have been grouped into 3 trusts. The income was originally from property and land rents but is now largely derived from Charity Commission Investment funds.
The income is distributed according to the Trust deeds. A third goes directly to the Church, a third to the Pakenham Education Trust and a third to a general Pakenham Charity. All grants are made in order to benefit Pakenham residents, with money allocated to both individuals and organisations.
The charities are each managed by five trustees, as follows:
The Town Estate and Educational Trust trustees are the Vicar, two Church wardens and two Pakenham parish councillors.
The General fund, (known as the Pakenham Charities for the Poor), trustees are the Vicar, two Parish councillors and two co-opted members from Pakenham.
A clerk is appointed to carry out the administration.
The trustees meet in early December each year to decide the main distribution of income. They also meet midsummer in order to consider urgent applications as they arise. Could Pakenham Charities help you?
The General Charity has specific provision to make small annual fuel grants to help older, sick and disabled residents. One-off grants are also made to assist with exceptional needs which include hospital visiting costs and disability aids. Local organisations may also receive grants.
The Educational Trust makes grants to students whose permanent address is in Pakenham who are undertaking post-school study or training and to local organisations with an educational purpose.
All enquiries and applications are dealt with in strict confidence.
