DO:

  • .. be observant and aware – notice the odd, the strange or unusual
  • .. report what you notice to the police immediately
  • .. lock your cars if you are not in them or beside them
  • .. Postcode, UV mark, photograph and record details of all your valuables
  • .. get to know who your neighbours are
  • .. look after their interests when they go away – push mail through the letterbox properly, put their bin out for collection (put something in it if its empty)
  • .. tell someone where you are going when you go out

DON'T:

  • .. let strangers into your house
  • .. fall for special offers that seem too good to be true (they probably are!)
  • .. leave doors and windows open or unlocked when you can’t watch them
  • .. leave valuables visible to the casual observer – particularly keys and cash - in the house or the car
  • .. ever leave the car keys in the ignition of an unattended car – no matter how briefly
  • .. give your personal details to casual enquirers
