Pakenham WI News - August 2024

Thursday 8th August 2024 - Forensic Scientist Mary Newton
Our August speaker was Mary Newton, a forensic scientist who has spoken to us before.  This time it was about Rape – a short word but a long sentence. Every year in England and Wales 12,000 men and 95,000 women are raped.  A very interesting talk and Mary gave us an insight into a very sensitive subject.

We visited Sandringham Flower Show in August, on a very hot day.  The flowers in the marquee were so beautiful.  Lots of stalls: gifts, clothes, plants, refreshments and the church to visit.   Some members even managed to visit the house.  A brilliant day out.

Our Hospice Coffee Morning is on Saturday 28th September, 10am - 12 noon in Pakenham Village Hall – see poster.

We hope to visit Burghley House on Thursday 3rd October.

Our next meeting is on Thursday, 12th September when Amanda is coming to talk about the Gatehouse Food Bank and the much-needed work they do to provide food for those who need it.  This is a local charity which operates in Bury St Edmunds.

Do come and join us.  Doors open at 7pm.  There are refreshments available during the evening and an opportunity to chat with other members.
