Pakenham WI News - March 2026

Pakenham WI

Thursday 12th March 2026
Mary Newton made her third visit to our group on the topic ‘Rape 2 – Serial Rapists’.  Although the subject was disturbing, her knowledge and insight were impressive.  She explained the many ways investigators gather data and how complex the process of analysing and coordinating information can be before identifying the offender.  Mary discussed the difficulties involved in assessing allegations while ensuring victims are properly supported. Distinguishing also false accusations from women who had supposedly been raped.  She shared a detailed and moving account of a WI woman who had been raped – a harrowing and almost unbelievable experience.  Thankfully, the perpetrator was eventually jailed.  The evening proved  both informative and entertaining.

We held our jumble sale in Saturday 7th March, which was very successful.  Items left over were donated to Mencap in Thetford.     Thank you to all who helped and donated jumble.

Our next meeting is on Thursday 9th April in Pakenham Village Hall.  Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.  If you have not been before or wish to come back, come along (no immediate charge).  We have refreshments after the speaker, so you can chat.  We also hold a raffle.
Our speaker this month will be Mike Rhodes, talking about his journey from surgeon to wine maker.  He has a vineyard in Thurston and produces about 4000 bottles of red, white and rose wine yearly.

Do come and join us.
