Pakenham WI News - June 2026

Mike Wabe was our speaker this month.  He told us all about the witches and witch hunting in East Anglia and about how Matthew Hawkins terrorised the population causing many witches (women and men) to go to their death.  Printing started it off, Bibles, alchemy and astrology.   There are 18 mentions of witches in the Bible. Witches were hung in England and burnt in Scotland. In 1736, there was a Witchcraft Act which remained until 1951. Witch hunting continues in the 21st Century.

Our next meeting is on Thursday 9th July when we will hold our Annual Garden Party in a member’s garden.  A time to relax, chat to members and enjoy delicious food. Let us hope the weather is kind.
