Pakenham Village Tributes : Ralph Simpson "Charlie Wheeler"

Ralph Simpson "Charlie Wheeler"

TributeOne Hundred and Twenty Five. That's how many came to St. Mary's on a cold dank February Tuesday (11.02.2003). They came in their hats and great coats, crouched against the cold and wet. Five to a pew they sat, filling the church from the back, old and young, great and good, in tribute to a true man of Pakenham.

"Charlie Wheeler", or just plain "Wheeler" to some, a friend to us all. Not just a neighbour, but someone you could rely on, a very loyal man. Loyal to whoever it was he worked for, loyal to his village and most of all, loyal to his family. A smart man, always well dressed, well presented. "Charlie" knew his onions all right. He had his opinions, like any good man, honest, straightforward opinions, just like the man himself.

"Charlie", you died too soon. Only seventy-two. You have left a gap in our lives, mate. Rest in peace. God bless Shirley and Rob and his wife who are left behind.
