Pakenham Village Tributes : Ilse Snowdon

Ilse Snowdon
1926 - July 2015

Ilse SnowdonMy family and I would like to extend our warm thanks to you all for joining us to celebrate the life of our wonderful mother - she wouldn't want it any other way!

She was such a gentle, caring soul who was full of great fun and had a wicked sense of humour coupled with an infectious laugh!

She adored her family and was so happy to see the arrival of her 10 great grand children.

She spent much of her life being a very active and independent person. When living in London a favourite pastime was meeting up with friends and visiting art galleries.

Ilse moved to Pakenham approximately 17 years ago and most Wednesdays she would nip into Bury on the bus, often making new friends and visiting the athenaeum and library and we think she knew the best stalls on the market!

She really loved her time living in Pakenham, her many friends and enjoying, for example the WI, tea and chat and the book club. She also loved her garden and would spend many happy hours pottering about.

Friday mornings were a particular favourite of her's because, come rain or shine, she and a few friends would pop to Joyce’s and have a glass of baileys!

When she was able to, she and a group of friends would go on their weekly saunter around the village and end up at the Fox for a well-deserved meal and no doubt an alcoholic beverage!, or when it was hot, an ice cream from the post office. It has always amazed us how mum, who was then probably in her late 70's, managed to walk from Walberswick to Dunich and back along the stony beach, incredible!

She was also rather partial to a glass of wine with her meals and during her short time spent at Westhorpe Hall, they happily carried on this tradition.

So, as you can see, she really did enjoy life and we are sure you will remember her wit and fun, with a big smile and good memories!

She leaves behind 4 children, 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Rest in peace mum, we will all miss you terribly.

Read by her daughter June at the funeral service, West Suffolk Crematorium on Thursday 30th July 2015.
