Pakenham Village Tributes : Brian Buckle

The Late Brian Buckle

TributeBrian was born in Rougham on February 9th 1941 to Hilda and George Buckle. The youngest of three brothers Brian grew up in Rougham and later Thurston and went to Beyton School, Brian left school at 15 and went to the local builders Bakers as an apprentice to become a painter and decorator for about seven years. When he was 22 he was painting a bungalow in Fen Road Pakenham when he began noticing a pretty girl, Annette Plummer, walking by a number of times. She was just 17 and the attraction was obviously mutual and they were married a few years later in Pakenham Church. During their courtship Brian decided to become self employed and he worked day and night to be able to afford to pay for the bungalow they built and where they lived happily together for the test of their married life. It was hard work building the bungalow and working all hours to pay the bills but Brian was nothing if not a hard worker and he was determined to to do it and create a happy home with Annette which he did.

1973 was the year of their first born, a daughter Sarah and six years later in 1979 their son Martin arrived to complete their children. Brian was very proud of their home and indeed added an extension for Sarah to live and bring her children up in the comfortable lifestyle that Brian and Annette had created.

Brian loved his garden especially his vegetable patch and also specialising in french marigolds and geraniums.

Brian was well known for his love of red wine and he looked forward to his "booze runs" to France with Percy, Nick and Mark. Brian was also a very good cook and took it upon himself to do the cooking for the family and share the load with his beloved and devoted Annette. Brian was a devoted family man much loved and adored by his family whom he was so proud. What they had done and where they were in their lives, Brian was the head of an extremely close knit family and his death in just over five weeks from diagnosis was and will be a massive blow.

We leave it to Sarah to sum up: "There are no words that can express what a loving and caring husband, dad and grandad he was. He will be greatly missed and forever in his family's thoughts and hearts. God Bless you Brian, we love you."
