We mourn the passing of Muriel Finch who passed from this life, on Monday 11th of
September at The Martins residential home in Bury. Muriel was in her nineties and the
widow of the Reverend Canon Edward Finch who officiated in this Benefice for many
years before his death.
Muriel's funeral will be at 12 noon on Friday 6th of October in St Mary's Church
Pakenham.
Muriel passed on in her sleep on 11th September aged 93.
Muriel lived at St.Clare in Pakenham Street with her husband Edward or Ted as he was
well known. She leaves daughters Ruth, Helen and Claire and sons Peter and Richard.
Muriel was born in London in 1924 the youngest of 4 daughters. After leaving school
Muriel trained as a teacher and spent many happy years in primary schools in Leicester
and Walthamstow and Chelmsford where they lived for 20 years. Muriel and Ted
moved to Pakenham in 1990. Muriel and Ted took students camping on a farm in near
Leicester on their honeymoon and then gradually going further afield including their
favourite Trinidad and Tobago and notching over 50 plus countries by the end of her
life. Muriel's voluntary work included mothers groups adult literacy tutoring, Save the
Children, President of the local Wl, and the day centre for the elderly and secretary of
Pakenham Parochial Church Council.
